After a short 2 hour flight we arrived on the French Island of New Caledonia. Time to slow down, switch languages and put ourselves in a tropical mood.

Noumea, the capital city, appears to be a sleepy little city with a slow pace of life.  Our hotel is on the Baie des Citrons near one of the local marinas.

There is a large nickel mine, run by Inco, on New Caledonia, which is a source of much income.
