Angkor & Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Cambodia is best known for two remarkable times in its history.  The first, being the construction of the many magnificent, World Heritage listed, Khmer temples at Angkor.  The second, is the atrocities inflicted on its people in the 1970s during Pol Pot's reign of terror which brought the infamous 'Killing Fields' to the notice of the rest of the world.

There's sadness for the past, poverty, corrupt officials, and recurring drought.   There's also the wondrous ancient architecture,  warm smiling people, increasing tourism, and an encouraging optimism and belief that the worst is over and things are slowly getting better.  My time there was short, but it was long enough to make Cambodia one of the highlights of my travels.
