In Samoa, when someone dies they are
most often buried in front of their home. Cemeteries are an option but
they are not commonly used. Home burial serves a dual purpose.
It shows that the land was owned by the deceased and is still in the hands
of their family. It also enables loved ones to easily communicate with
their ancestors. A quick "bye grandma" as they leave for work keeps
them feeling they are still in touch. |
