I took a bus to the Tjibaou (pronounced chee boo) Cultural Centre which is dedicated to the Kanak, the native Melanesian group of the islands in New Caledonia.  As it turned out, most of the passengers on this route were Kanaks.  I wanted to make an image, but didn't want to just stick the camera in their faces, so I pretended to photograph the beach and sea when the driver pulled into a bus stop, making sure I had some of the passengers in the frame.  When I looked at the result I was pleased.  The sign over the door says descente meaning 'descend'.  Since I was on my way to a museum dedicated to the island's original descendents, and, since all of these passengers could possibly be descendants of the original people, I thought the image was particularly fitting.
