Thai Keyboard Map

Thai does not use English characters, so some method must be devised to associate a particular Thai character with a key on the keyboard. The Thai Keyboard Mapper draws a keyboard on screen and lets you define how the Thai characters are placed (mapped). Two sample maps (called PHONETIC.MAP, and KETMANEE.MAP) are provided, but you can easily re-arrange characters as you wish, or define a completely different layout. The other programs in the suite will use the keyboard map you define whenever Thai input is required.

The Phonetic.map is most useful if you have a normal English keyboard, and will never use a Thai keyboard or typewriter. This is because the characters are arranged in a phonetic fashion, to make it easy to remember their locations. For example, GAH GUY is allocated to the G key.

The Ketmanee.map is almost identical to a standard Thai keyboard layout, and is most useful if you have such a keyboard plugged into your computer, or if you (or your partner) have used a Thai typewriter.

Note that the software uses an internal coding, which is not affected by how you re-arrange the character mapping.

When you have finished defining your map, you can print it; you can also stick labels on the front surface of the keys in your keyboard.

Please note that this keyboard map can only be used with this Thai software suite; it cannot be used with Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, Netscape Navigator, or any other software, and does not act as a keyboard driver to add Thai capability to a program.
